I don't think there is a hard line.
Between radeonkms and amdgpu — we know, radeonkms supports the first
two Graphics Core Next architectures and everything *before*, while
amdgpu supports the first two Graphics Core Next architectures and
everything *after*.
Between the "modern" radeonkms (LinuxKPI-based) and "legacy" radeonkms
(old direct port to FreeBSD base)… well, "if you have problems with
modern, try legacy". I guess we could eventually collect enough reports
to know which GPUs only work on legacy. But no hard line.
