VT switch to console disabled once X starts

Hmmm, the behavior you describe happens with Intel or Radeon GPUs when
using syscons only. But it's unexpected with the NVIDIA driver, no
matter the console driver you use...

I have no NVIDIA hardware at hand. Was the dmesg you posted taken before
or after X was started?

Your Xorg.log shows no error either.
