Sendmail -- local mail problems

I'm not sure this is the same problem I had, but it might. The sendmail knobs
in /etc/defaults/rc.conf show:

  sendmail_submit_flags="-L sm-mta -bd -q30m -ODaemonPortOptions=Addr=localhost"

The last option was causing me problems as I hadn't used it (or any variant)
before sendmail 8.12.x was imported (I think that's the version).

My problems about "permission denied" on any locally created mail went away if
I dropped the -ODaemon.... option in the submit flags.
