is it just a myth that a Windows install can only run on the
hardware of the installed machine? If it shouldn't be a myth, then the
VM needs to be able to emulate exactly the same hardware, as the one
used by the real machine and this probably must include hardware
fingerprints. If the myth shouldn't apply to Windows, then
maybe to proprietary software running on Windows. Sometimes myths rest
upon half-truths. If this myths should be half-true, they are at least
not untrue. What you try to archive seems to be a bold venture. Maybe
Windows runs on two machines, but it might start with kind of a blue
"repair" screen, when used on another machine? OTOH I heard of Windows
installs on USB sticks. My apologies for that much hearsay and no facts
at all.
