You don't have to compile anything into the kernel.  There is a sysctl
you can tweak, to enable and/or disable core dumps by processes:

    # sysctl kern.coredump=0

To make the setting permanent, set it in your `/etc/sysctl.conf' file
too, without the 'sysctl' command:

    kern.coredump=0
