XFree86 4.3.0 and 4.2.0 ?

Hello,
on my XP1000 XFree-4.2 from the FreeBSD 5.0 instalation CD was working
very fine.
I scracthed everything and installe FreeBSD-4.8
now I Could nto find a XFree distribution on the installation CD,
there is no XFree in hte mini-iso.
So I installed XFree86 from ports and later I installed pre-compiled
packages because it failed to work. Looks like only XFree-4.3 is avaliable
in the 4.8 release but XFree86-4.3.0 is not working for me.
everything hangs whatever model of PCI card I use

I'd ask if someone could give me some succesfull hint... or if someone
