Well, one thing to note is that with ACPI you have APIC, but without ACPI you
do not. Can you try just booting ACPI with APIC disabled
(hint.apic.0.disabled=1) to see if that fares better? You'll probably need
to do that with a FreeBSD/i386 kernel for now.
