This is where this is more interesting. It was installed from exactly this ISO image: > > FreeBSD-15.0-PRERELEASE-amd64-20250822-027be99b1f33-279771-disc1.iso The sequencing looks to be: 15.0-CURRENT 15.0-PRERELEASE (start of code slush for main branch) (2025-08-08) [Note: the 027be99b1f33 for the .iso is from 2025-08-21] stable/15 created (also: main became 16.0-CURRENT) (2025-09-05, early) 15.0-ALPHA1 (2025-09-05, late UTC) 15.0-ALPHA* releng/15.0 created (also: stable/15 became 15.0-STABLE) (Oct-10, late) 15.0-BETA* 15.0-RC* 15.0-RELEASE (2025-Nov-28 commit [tag too], early) So the .iso dates back to about 16 days before stable/15 had been created and over 3 months before 15.0-RELEASE. There was a lot of 15.0 pkgbase development activity over that time frame. > > In this way: > > - Select 'Auto (ZFS)' setup option. > - Select '(BIOS+UEFI)' there. > - Fill ZFS options field with '-o compression=none -o atime=on' options. > - Chose PKGBASE and OFFLINE installation. > > ... and then upgraded with pkg(8) to 15.0-RELEASE - and worked 'just fine' after it. Looks to me to have been a rather large jump, starting from an in-development state, long before 15.0 official pkgbase stabilized (the first RE official pkgbase). > > Then I upgraded it to 15.1-RELEASE with official instructions and ... yeah. > > I believe that 'sets' could be added later after this 'PRERELEASE' state and that may be the reason ... but not sure. The kind of jump that was involved is more likely to have problems show up at some point than starting with a RE official pkgbase installation and doing RE official pkgbase upgrade sequences, not that I understand the details involved here. > > Regards, > vermaden > > -- === Mark Millard marklmi at yahoo.com
