BSD IS NOT A FAVOR OF LINUX. FreeBSD and Linux are complete independent
re-writes of Unix. The other BSD's are forks of FreeBSD.
There are many open sourced software that are coded to execute on most
flavors of Unix.
Microsoft Windows is a completely independent operating system which
internally is as different as night and day to the Unix flavored
operating systems.
Your above statement that "most people use linux over BSD" is just as
wrong as saying "most people drive a Kia car over a VW". Each Unix
favored operating system has different bells and whistles with their own
loyal user groups.
