Removing a basic component should work the other way around. It should
stay in the base system as long as there are servers out there
supporting it.

Then the infrastructure for the new system must be put into place.

When the infrastructure for the new system is up and running, the
infrastructure for the old system can be taken down.

It is nothing more than the story of the chicken and the egg.
