2940 trouble with on-board controller

Sounds like something particular to the RedHat setup.  Specifically, if you
were using a redhat supplied kernel before, did you remember to remake the
initrd file or completely quit using it depending on whether you made the
5.0.5 aic7xxx driver compiled into the kernel or a module?
