Standards as we know them don't appear to be the thing for the 21st
century. It appears that the industrial approach d'jour is either:

	- Take your system proprietary (MicroSoft, Sun)
	- Go open source (sgi, ibm, hp)

The best way to make sure something is "standard" today is to get
an O'Riely book written on the topic.
