I am pretty sure that my ATI card was allowing KDE to use openGL, that
was before KDE4.8. Then after upgrading I could not enable openGL
anymore, first I blamed KDE but seems there was a xorg upgrade to 7.6
at the same time, so that means that with xorg-7.5 ati still was 2d 
enabled ... beside 3d was not working

I think WITH_NOUVEAU was removed from xorg-1.10

I will see if I can get a nvidia card and try it out
