unsupported video card

Actually vga generic is working now.

The next problem (there is aways a next problem :-)
is that i dont get a good resolution.
All applications appear too big in the screen, in any resolution mode.
I set horiz sync/vertrefresh according to the manufacturer.
A DefaultDepth statement in the XF86Config seems to play no rolle 
(or crashes X if an unsupported is specified)
The Modes fields in Screen Section also seem to play no rolle
(without them i Control alt +  to next mode and with them i dont)
I tryed to set different frequency ranges and it was a disaster.

So, what can one do to find a proper resolution for his screen
if the standard modes dont work?

Or could it still be incompatibility problem of video card?
