Could you specify "too big"? Too big, because the fonts are too big perhaps? 
In that case, try specifying the exact size of your display device (i.e. 
monitor), so XFree86 can correctly calculate the resolution of your screen in 
DPI:

	DisplaySize  width height
> 	HorizSync    30.0 - 85.0
> 	VertRefresh  50.0 - 120.0

Width and height are the the horizonal and vertical dimensions of your 
monitor's *visible* screen area in millimeters. Those can be usually found in 
the technical data sheet of your monitor's manual, if you don't have that 
available you'll have to employ a tape measure. :-)

If that still yields too big fonts/windows, you probably should adjust the 
fontsizes in the respective applications directly, but you can also fudge the 
values to influence the calculated DPI.
