There are significant differences among the P5 'family, but AFAIK, all P5(xx) do 
work with just about any release of FreeBSD, (we've used 6.2 thru 6.3, all 7.X, 
8-CURRENT).

That said, there are MB, 'glue' chipset, and BIOS differences that can require 
special attention or reduce networking or Xorg utility, i.e. - getting a USB 
mouse to play nice (BIOS USB settings), perhaps having an onboard NIC (P5K & 
Alantec) that is not supported, and less than optimal graphics adapter choices.

Some (again P5K) rob signal & interrupt lines for the 'faster' of two PCI-e 
sockets in such a way as to preclude effective use of the onnboard PCI slots 
when that socket is populated. Not so if the 'slower' PCI-e (only) is used.

JM2CW, but, other than their 'bespoke' server MB, ASUS seem to place so much 
emphasis on Win-Gaming performance (or benchmarks..) that the compromises they 
make to 'win' do not make life easy for applying their consumer-grade MB to *N*X 
server or desktop use.

We've had better results and far less hassle for both server and 'power user' 
desktop with comparably easy to find GigaByte MB.
