I think he has, since there's no 'F' before 1 or 2 above.

I'm guessing the problem is that the geometry in the flash's mbr
doesn't match what the BIOS think, and chaos rules from there.

I'm guessing the solution is to enable packet mode with boot0cfg:

    boot0cfg -o packet /dev/blah
