4.9: ata1-slave glitch causes hangs on rebooting

As it's a laptop I don't really know what the jumper settings are on the ATA
devices.  I've looked in the BIOS but there's no information in there
either.

I've also tried pulling out my floppy/CD drives from the laptop before I
boot, to no avail.
