Have you disabled USB in the BIOS?  I can't recall exactly what the
problem is (something related to interrupts AFAIR), but the effect is
that you will see the system hang if you don't disable USB on Dell
PE1850's.  I haven't had a problem since I disabled USB.

The problem has been discussed several times in the past on the
FreeBSD lists.
