FreeBSD-10.3 No ntpd.pid file created

What happens if
- you add '-p /var/run/ntpd.pid' to the ntpd arguments?
or
- you add 'pidfile "/var/run/ntpd.pid"' to /etc/ntp.conf ?
According to ntpd(8), 'pidfile' is apparently a valid configuration file
directive, despite not being mentioned in ntp.conf(5).
