You seem to believe that FreeBSD has a "home screen". It has not.
At least not per default. You will have to choose to use KDE, Gnome 2
or Gnome 3, Xfce, Lxde or another desktop environment you want to
use. Instructions to do so can be found in the online documentation
(Handbook, FAQ, Wiki) accessible from FreeBSD's main site.

In your case, why don't you give PC-BSD a try? It's FreeBSD, with
additional tools and programs preinstalled, and it comes with a
preconfigured GUI which includes what you probably call "home screen".
It's easy to install and to use.
