I guess it's working too much! :-D
How does X know 2048x1536 is a valid resolution otherwise?
Why would it override my settings?

Right: I changed that to 24 and this seemed to do the trick!

Still wondering... it must have been there for eons, yet it started 
misbehaving only a week ago...
Well, it works now! :-)
