dump core dump, now emergency boot CD

Hello,

Since the dump command has been producing core dumps for me, I'm  
thinking of running dump from an emergency boot CD. Is this possible?  
Wise? How would I do this? The 5.4 Release CD #1 just boots into the  
installer.
