That's not a complete gmirror setup that will load on boot.  You
should see http://people.freebsd.org/~rse/mirror/ for a thorough
tutorial.

gmirror is not aware of the filesystem used with it.  When you
synchronize the disks, it's not copy ~7mb of files, it's copying
bit-for-bit the contents of one disk/partition to another.
