Can't login to 5.2-RC1, must hard reboot

My server locks up every few days, mysql and other process are still  
running, I can ping the machine, however I cannot login.

Even when I login using the console, i can enter my name for the login,  
then it just hangs.

A few questions: my kernel does not have maxusers set, does it need to  
be set?  Is this even still around in FreeBSD 5.2?

I get the following error messages in my logfile, a lot.
