Best X configurator for laptops?

Well, I have a SONY Vaio laptop running XF 4.3.0 (and 4.2.1 before).
I both time had to modify the config file to insert VertRefresh and HorizSync
and also a modeline.

Otherwise I would a 640x480 screen.
