The Xaw3d Homepage says

   You may also want to merge the Fig resource file in
   the /app-defaults directory of Xaw3d-1.5E's distribution into your
   resource file(s).

though I don't see how this could affect actions defined 
by xfig (e.g. ZoomIn, ZoomOut).
