pkg_* slow?

I've seen this on this box which has 700(!) or so packages installed at
all times. Installing, say, a GNOME application can take more time to
register the package than it does to build it[1] (I've seen five minute
package registrations before). But since no one's provided a patch to
fix things (hint, hint), I'm content to use the best (albeit slow)
package management available. :)

[1]: You can only imagine how long it took me to update to GNOME 2.10.
