It actually does work.  (both the 13 and 12 images).

What does *NOT* work is trying to use OSLOGIN, but that's a different port 
(sysutils/google-compute-engine-oslogin) and needs someone with google compute
engine foo to debug THAT, but the images both allow login with standard ssh
keys
in the metadata.
