OK, will take up the issue with encfs devs, but pretty sure this is a FreeBSD
specific issue...
I disproved my thought that it might be related to trying to use an older
encrypted directory. Created a brand new one with new .encfs6.xml file and
still get similar issues. I can't create any file or directory. Here are some
messages from /var/log/messages:
