MythTV backend - any hope to get my PVR-250 working?

I have an always on FreeBSD box which I thought would also serve as
MythTV backend. After looking at http://wiki.freebsd.org/MythTV I
figured it's a piece of cake and bought a PVR-250. 
Now I'm confused because MythTV does not find the card.

After installing multimedia/pvr250 device node cxm0 is created, but
that's the only one. I can cat the stream out of it and watch the
default channel but that's it.

The card is:
Multimedia video controller: Internext Compression Inc iTVC16 (CX23416)
MPEG-2 Encoder (rev 01)

Is there any hope it would work after some fiddling or I just better
ditch the whole idea?
