Midi on 5.3. stable - newbie question

FreeBSD 5.3 does not support MIDI for any soundcard (AFAIK). audio/timidity is 
a software GM-compatible synthesizer that can play .mid files. However, it 
does not provide the /dev/sequencer device, so you'll need to use it directly 
instead of using kmid.
