ok, I never run X server on ia64,
only clients.

no, don't use any of that.
Also, probably neither will build on ia64.
Even building kdelibs and kdebase segfaults
arbitrarily, and there's no help or interest
from devs:

	Thanks. I've read that the FreeBSD graphics stack was undergoing major
	changes [2] (BTW, x86/x64 only?), but don't know the current status. What
	about KMS or Gallium3D for example? On the Linux side, 3D hardware
	acceleration is really unstable on my zx6000 without KMS and r300g. And
	even with that in, I'm still getting random X freezes.

well, since I don't run X server on ia64,
I don't really need any of that.
I guess if you really want to run X server
on it, then you are on your own...
