Volume Control-2.6.0 lost multi-sound card information

A patched Volume Control for (FBSD) Gnome-2.x (2 <= x <=4) provided for
two significant changes that were very nice:

1) multiple audio devices resulted in multiple tabs, one per device,
   which controlled the specific audio devices' settings

2) each audio device had its manufacturers' name in the tab field rather
   than a system or raw device name

These Volume Control changes appear to have not been incorporated into
Gnome-2.6.0 and I would like to see them included and made a part of the
base [FBSD] Gnome environment.
