Urgent problem - 7.x doesn't work on HP servers

Hmm, new data! It works on 8-CURRENT!

Something's fishy here. I'll try and investigate more, but if anyone has
more ideas about where to look, I'd appreciate them - I don't want to
run a -CURRENT system in production.
