atapicam not working under -CURRENT

Pardon my being dense here, but are you saying that this is what happens 
when you have a disc in the drive, and then start the boot process? I ask 
because I have a firewire dvd burner that atapicam won't recognize unless 
there is a disc in the drive when I try to probe it.
