5.3 kernel panic: ufs_dirbad during installation

This is usually indicative of storage problems (writes not completing,
etc.).  I'd download the Maxtor diagnostic tool and run it against your
disk to verify it is working correctly.

Could also be badly damaged memory or malfunctioning CPU corrupting data
in transit.
