There are a 
*lot* of changes in the 2.2.10 kernel.  Saying that the problem is aic7xxx
related might be true, then again it might not.  I'm not sure, but last I knew
the problem could just as easily be the CD-ROM changes in sr.c or it could be
that you have compiled the latest kernels with CONFIG_ALL_LUNS in the SCSI
code.  This CD-ROM is one that I think locks up if you probe all luns on the
scsi bus.
