AFAIK, the scanning can not be disabled. I used to solve this, by
modifying scsi_module.c to do nothing in init_module.

This will stop the driver from beeing registered with the SCSI middle
layer. Of course this means that you can not use it, but it may allow you
to solve the problem with scanning (somehow).

Oh well, all operating systems crash constantly right? This is normal, right? 
It has to be, Microsoft couldn't be so popular if their OS was so bad, could
