Hang on loading serial

Hello:

I'm using SuSE Linux 7.0 with latest aic7xxx and have sporadic hangs on
booting.

The System is a PII /266
The Adaptec 2940 is old and has BIOS 1.16

The hangs appear at about 75% of my boot attempts, mostly after a warm boot.
It makes no difference if I use the SuSE Kernel with the modules or my self
built
kernel with aic78xxx support compiled in.

Here the kernel messages:

aic7xxx: <Adaptec AHA-294X SCSI host adapter> at PCI 0/18/0
aic7xxx: Initial PCI_COMMAND value was 0x157
aic7xxx: Initial DEVCONFIG value was 0x580

The hangs are always after the above line. The next line is not shown anymore
and I have to power off the system. HD Led is on.

What could cause the problem ?

I have turned off sync-negotiation and checked for irq and adress conflicts
allready.
