You need to make sure you have the right settings in /etc/mail/mailer.conf.

You can copy this to that location:
/usr/share/examples/sendmail/mailer.conf

Dma does not have any /etc/rc.conf settings, but sendmail might have some. I don't think this changed from 13 to 14.

As far as I know during a source upgrade your existing configuration will not be changed. Only a fresh install has dma per default now.
