Paul This can be fixed with one to two changes . One check the group who owns the device for the cr/dvd drive . Look at ‘ less /var/run/dmesg.boot ‘ and search for the entry about the cd / dvd or run ‘camcontrol devlist’ and see what shows for the cd device . Next run ls -al /dev/the cd drive goes here . Check the group membership. So from here you can add this group to your user ; or you can add an entry to /etc/devfs.conf to change the perms or user/group ownership of the device. Then bounce the devfs daemon and log out and back in as your user and should be good . The devfs.conf way is the preferred way . --- Mark Saad | nonesuch@longcount.org > On Feb 18, 2023, at 11:43 AM, Eivind Nicolay Evensen <eivinde@terraplane.org> wrote: > > Den Fri, 17 Feb 2023 14:45:18 -0500 > skrev Paul Dufresne <dufresnep@zoho.com>: > >> Still using >> >> paul@dufresnep:/usr/home/paul $ freebsd-version ; uname -a >> >> 13.2-PRERELEASE >> >> FreeBSD dufresnep.ca 13.2-PRERELEASE FreeBSD 13.2-PRERELEASE #0 >> stable/13-n254363-d07eb716f35d: Sat Feb 4 19:16:12 UTC 2023 >> mailto:root@releng3.nyi.freebsd.org:/usr/obj/usr/src/amd64.amd64/sys/GENERIC >> amd64 >> >> paul@dufresnep:/usr/home/paul $ >> >> >> >> paul@dufresnep:/usr/home/paul $ cdrecord --scanbus >> >> Cdrecord-ProDVD-ProBD-Clone 3.02 2022/08/18 >> (amd64-unknown-freebsd13.1) Copyright (C) 1995-2019 Joerg Schilling >> >> cdrecord: Insufficient 'file read' privileges.
