One check the group who owns t= he device for the cr/dvd drive . Look at =E2=80=98 less /var/run/dmesg.boot =E2= =80=98 and search for the entry about the cd / dvd or run =E2=80=98camcontro= l devlist=E2=80=99 and see what shows for the cd device . Next run ls -al /d= ev/the cd drive goes here . Check the group membership. So from here you can= add this group to your user ; or you can add an entry to /etc/devfs.conf to= change the perms or user/group ownership of the device. Then bounce the dev= fs daemon and log out and back in as your user and should be good . The dev= fs.conf way is the preferred way .=20 --- Mark Saad | nonesuch@longcount.org > On Feb 18, 2023, at 11:43 AM, Eivind Nicolay Evensen wrote: >=20 > =EF=BB=BFDen Fri, 17 Feb 2023 14:45:18 -0500 > skrev Paul Dufresne : >=20 >> Still using=20 >>=20 >> paul@dufresnep:/usr/home/paul $ freebsd-version ; uname -a >>=20 >> 13.2-PRERELEASE >>=20 >> FreeBSD dufresnep.ca 13.2-PRERELEASE FreeBSD 13.2-PRERELEASE #0 >> stable/13-n254363-d07eb716f35d: Sat Feb 4 19:16:12 UTC 2023 >> mailto:root@releng3.nyi.freebsd.org:/usr/obj/usr/src/amd64.amd64/sys/GENE= RIC >> amd64 >>=20 >> paul@dufresnep:/usr/home/paul $=20 >>=20 >>=20 >>=20 >> paul@dufresnep:/usr/home/paul $ cdrecord --scanbus >>=20 >> Cdrecord-ProDVD-ProBD-Clone 3.02 2022/08/18 >> (amd64-unknown-freebsd13.1) Copyright (C) 1995-2019 Joerg Schilling >>=20 >> cdrecord: Insufficient 'file read' privileges.
