Bugzilla Automation <bugzilla@FreeBSD.org> has asked freebsd-python (Nobody)
<python@FreeBSD.org> for maintainer-feedback:
Bug 300368: textproc/py-rst2html5: Deprecate (conflicts with py-docutils on
bin/rst2html5)
https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=300368
--- Description ---
textproc/py-rst2html5 2.0 can't be installed together with its own
dependency, textproc/py-docutils:
py312-rst2html5-2.0_1 conflicts with py312-docutils-0.22.4,1 on
/usr/local/bin/rst2html5
Since py-docutils was updated to 0.21.2 (c0615e6a, 2024-07-11),
docutils itself installs bin/rst2html5, and this port installs the same
file, so pkg refuses. The packaged command is broken anyway: setup.py's
entry point is rst2html5_:main, but rst2html5_.py is not installed.
Upstream (https://foss.heptapod.net/doc-utils/rst2html5) has been
dormant since 2.0.1 (2024-01-06), and 2.0.1 still installs an rst2html5
script that overwrites the one from docutils by design, so updating
would not remove the conflict. An update would have to rename the
script, probably for little value, since docutils now ships an rst2html5
command of its own.
This proposes deprecating it; I've left EXPIRATION_DATE for you to set.
The patch sets
DEPRECATED= Conflicts with its own dependency textproc/py-docutils
BROKEN= its bin/rst2html5 conflicts with its own dependency
textproc/py-docutils
If you would rather keep the port, it would need an update to 2.0.1 with
its rst2html5 script renamed so it no longer overwrites the one from
textproc/py-docutils, which already ships that command.
Impact: no ports depend on it. The ports that use an rst2html5 command
(json-glib, pango, taisei) already use the one from docutils.
Users can use the rst2html5 command from textproc/py-docutils.
