Georg, sorry to hear you're having issues. This is the first time this has been
reported here. The project's github page does include some reports of not being
able to quit transmission on other platforms; however, there's insufficient
information in those reports to determine if it's the same issue you're having.
I would encourage you to open a bug report with the project. 

It's difficult to determine the cause of your issue from the information
provided. Have you modified the peer limits in your transmission configuration
file? Is there any relevant information in your logs? You can set
transmission's log level by specifying the transmission_log_level variable in
your rc.conf. Perhaps start by setting transmission_log_level=error.
