Updates:

I should have mentioned that my first step was disable Secure Boot to get
anywhere with FreeBSD.

A suggestion on IRC from yuripv:

set debug.acpi.disabled="acad cmbat"

That now stops earlier at psm0: model Generic PS/2 mouse, device ID 0

set debug.acpi.disabled="cmbat"

Stops at the original acpi_acad0...

One tap of of the space bar gives: AcpiOsExecute: task queue not started

set debug.acpi.disabled="acad" does not work, for what it's worth.
