I haven't had a shot at CURRENT for quite some time as when I had
time
to mess around with it, it was largely broken (i.e. make world
wouldn't succeed) and now I'm too short on time to mess around with
CURRENT.

Can't be any worse than using uneven versioned Linux Kernels. Oh
wait,
often even the even ones are a real PITA to work with ;-)

I for sure will download the snapshot to help beta testing (with
Linux, I often had the impression that it was mostly pointless to do
it since the people who had to fix the bugs often didn't really care
until the bugs came after themselves...).
