As to root; I performed all the testing while having elevated privileges.
That's why the log indicates that.
As to utmp; this (appears?) to be standard procedure. Testing against
x11/rxvt-devel, x11/rxvt, x11/rxvt-unicode, they all do this as well.
Didn't test x11/xterm. Are they *all* wrong?
