Hold on a second! You're trying to mount a *blank* DVD? Or *blank* CD?
As in: "There isn't anything on the disc"?
Well then, you can't mount blank DVDs or CDs, because there is no
filesystem on them. It's not like with HDDs that are formatted and are
empty. The filesystem of a CD/DVD is generated when the contents is
written to it.

What I don't understand is the "The disk was written to..." versus "a
dvd and cd that has been burnt mounts ok". IMO, a disk that has been
written to has been burned, so you should be able to mount it.
Or your "the disk was written to..." means that you *blanked* the CD.
