Programs and lib's disappearing, FreeBSD 5.4

This was the wrong solution.

Either you had/still have some serious disk corruption (drop to
single-user mode and run fsck -f), or someone (e.g. another admin, or
you in a moment of forgetfulness) did some deleting or a misdirected
portupgrade session.
